Chanel "Sand by the Sea" Pearl Flap Bag is a limited-edition piece that was a standout from the Spring/Summer 2019 runway collection, designed by Karl Lagerfeld for his beach-themed show. For this show, Karl Lagerfeld transformed Paris's Grand Palais into a massive, hyper-realistic indoor beach. The set included actual sand, a moving tide line with lapping waves, and even a tiki hut. According to some collectors and fashion historians, the sand inside these bags was sourced from the very same batch used to create that legendary runway. The entire collection was a tribute to Deauville, a seaside town in Normandy, France, where Coco Chanel opened her very first fashion boutique in 1913. The sand serves as a literal "souvenir" of that beachy, historical inspiration.
The bag is primarily crafted from transparent PVC with black lambskin leather trim. A defining feature is the sand-filled sides front/back panels ,which contain free-moving sand particles. It features the iconic interlocking CC turnlock clasp in champagne gold hardware. It includes a distinctive oversized faux pearl handle and alongside the classic Chanel woven chain and leather shoulder strap.
